by the numbers challenge: 9 days down

I love a big challenge. And this All About the Numbers Challenge by Cassie was right up my alley.

I must admit that when I started 9 days ago, I had a completely different view of this challenge. I thought the fitness minutes and miles would be the easiest things to get in. But as things have shaken out the last few days, that won’t be the case.

I’ve had to make some amendments.

1. Daily Plank.

Here’s the thing. Planks hurt my foot. Plain and simple. So I modified. I did the first 6 days on my toes and elbows. I’ve now moved to my knees and my hands. It isn’t the same angle, so it isn’t as tough. But I’ve noticed that if I twist my elbows in, it changes my balance and uses my abs more (does that make any sense at all?). I’m also tacking on push-ups when I’m tired. I held it for 3 minutes today before I got to the tired point, as opposed to my 1:15 max on “correct” plank. But it’s all I can do.

2. Miles

I don’t know how long I’ll be no impact on my foot. I just don’t know. So I’m having to make some adjustments. I hope to get some time in running in a pool. The amount of time I spend in the pool will be translated to miles at a 11:30/mile average. That’s about where I was. I can assess that effort level. I’m also going to use the mileage on the arc trainer. I know they are not reliable, but they are low impact. So it is what it is.

Huh. That’s it. Just 2. That’s not bad.

So let’s look at how I’m doing:

Right on Pace:

  • Scale-free
  • Daily Plank(ish)
  • Random Acts of Kindness

Ahead of schedule:

  • Fitness Minutes
  • Miles
  • Fruits/Veggies (but just barely)
  • Meatless Meals
  • Water. I’m going to finish this waaaay early. I’m a machine.

Behind schedule:

  • No added sugar. I’m struggling with this one. I thought I had it 2 days until I read the ingredients of my pumpkin greek yogurt. Blah. I’ve got some catching up to do, but it is still manageable.
  • I still don’t have a big reward. I’m thinking about a Brazilian Blowout though. Any of y’all have any experience with one?

  1. I’m only 5 days in and struggling. This whole being sick thing? Has stunk. Like you, I thought the fitness minutes/miles would be easy. I have zero for either so far. I’m behind on most, but working on it. I figure I need the challenge.

    I think my reward (depending on finances) will be some super nice running pants and a new running bra. I need both, but I usually go for cheaper ones that don’t last as long.

  2. I have naturally very curly hair and got a brazilian blowout and it was amazing!!! I finally felt what girls with straight hair feel when they don’t have to blow dry their hair and it drys without frizz! Seriously amazing. Sadly the second and third time i did it, it didn’t work as well but still helped a lot. It would be a great reward! Plus if you let your hair air dry you can still have some nice waves, just minus the frizz.
